Cheryl has been instrumental in starting up a Freelance Medical Writers Group in the SouthWest suburban area of MetroWest Boston. Similar groups existed successfully in other states, but none were in this area. At the New England Chapter's annual AMWA education conference in May, she met another writer from her area, and they both agreed that it was needed. Freelance medical writers work at home alone, often managing families, small children, and other home responsibilities. This gives them a good networking opportunity, and a chance to compare notes on client management and fee setting. The new group had its first 2-hour lunch meeting in Norfolk, MA on May 18. It will meet once a month, and hopefully grow to include all medical freelancers in the area.
