Today I attended the AMWA-NE Roundtable Brunch Discussions. My table discussed: "Blogging for Medical Writers." Great discussion with my peers; great guidance by the table leader. Some of us already blogged, and some didn't. At the end of the 2-hours, I think we agreed that all should. Getting Noticed by AMWA-NE

The February 2012 issue (p3) of the AMWA New England Chapter News, acknowledges Cheryl's contribution to the national AMWA publication --> The latest issue of the AMWA Journal [2011;26(4):165-166] includes an article by Cheryl Lathrop: “Electronic, Portable, and Green: Imperatives for Creating Today’s e-Portfolio.” Cheryl is a freelance medical writer in Walpole, Mass.

Creating Today's e-Portfolio

Cheryl wrote an article for the latest issue of the AMWA JOURNAL (Volume 26, Number 4, 2011) entitled: “Electronic, Portable, and Green: Imperatives for Creating Today’s e-Portfolio”. The AMWA JOURNAL is the official journal of the American Medical Writers Association; this issue was the GREEN THEME ISSUE.

CAREER NIGHT: Create a Medical Writing Portfolio!

On November 9 for Career Night, Cheryl was a guest lecturer at the "Nutrition Communication Masters Program" at Tufts, in Boston. She taught a classroom version of her popular AMWA "No Portfolio? No Problem!" class. Students can now create a writing portfolio and be ready to apply for their first job.

Cheryl Receives "Distinguished Service Award"

At the Annual Meeting of the Appalachian Mountain Club, SouthEast Mass Chapter, Cheryl was awarded the chapter's 2011 Distinguished Service Award (DSA). The DSA is awarded each year to the person that gave the most distinguished volunteer service to the chapter.

Cheryl is the Communications Chair and sits on the Executive Board. As chair, she produces the monthly chapter newsletter (both print and electronic), the chapter website, and the monthly chapter e-blast for a readership of 3000 members. Cheryl has also spent 2011 converting the chapter from print materials to electronic materials and introducing the chapter to the use of Social Networking (FB, TW, LI).

AMWA-NE "Freelance Forum" panelist

On Saturday, April 9, Cheryl was a panelist at the "Freelance Forum" at the 9th Biennial New England Conference hosted by the New England Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA-NE). During the 3-hour session, Cheryl and the other panelists (all successful freelance editors and writers) answered questions from the audience of new and wannabe freelances.

Seminar: No Portfolio? No Problem!

On Sunday, February 27, Cheryl taught a roundtable seminar at the "Professional Development Day" hosted by the New England Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA-NE). Cheryl showed how to create a medical writing portfolio -- how to re-purpose what you already have, create new writing samples, get people to let you write for them, and make your new writing samples look polished and professional.
